Discover the DJI Zenmuse L3, a cutting-edge LiDAR sensor designed to redefine the accuracy and range of your aerial data capture. Whether you're mapping large open areas with its exceptional range of up to 950m or capturing extremely fine details such as power lines thanks to its small laser spot and centimeter-level accuracy, the L3 offers uncompromising performance. Paired with a high-precision IMU for flawless inertial navigation, this system delivers dense and accurate point clouds, ideal for digital twins, engineering structure modeling, and geological surveys, even under dense vegetation.

Long Range Sensor: Maximum Coverage

DJI Zenmuse L3 is equipped with a Long Range LiDAR Sensor that guarantees an exceptional range of 950 m even at a low reflectivity of 10%. Powered by a Class 1 laser, it is optimized to operate at high altitudes; an AGL (Above Ground Level) of between 300-500 m is recommended for maximum coverage, with the possibility of climbing up to 830 m in environments such as open-pit mines. Ideal for: Mapping large areas, long-distance surveys, and terrain with steep slopes.

High Precision and Maximum Detail

The Zenmuse L3's LiDAR provides centimeter-level accuracy, which is essential for critical applications. Horizontal and vertical accuracy reach 4 cm and 3 cm at 120 m, respectively, and remain at 7.5 cm and 5 cm at 300 m. Even in real time, Z-axis accuracy is guaranteed within 15 cm. This level of detail is possible thanks to a focused laser beam and a reduced divergence angle. This translates into superior detail capture (essential for models such as power lines and towers) and better penetration under vegetation to capture more terrain points. Ideal for: Topographic Mapping, Digital Twin, and high-fidelity engineering modeling.

Up to 2 million dots per second: Adjustable Speed and Detail

The L3 LiDAR sensor offers unprecedented flexibility with up to 2 million points per second. The acquisition rate is fully adjustable, with options including 100K, 350K, 1M, and 2 MHz, allowing operators to balance speed and quality requirements. This modulation is crucial: choosing a higher rate maximizes mapping speed, but the energy per point is lower; conversely, a lower rate concentrates more energy per point, improving data quality. This flexibility, supported by the 1535 nm laser (Max 100 W), makes the L3 perfect for rapid monitoring, modeling steel structures, and gaining insight into the smallest details.

Enhanced sensor, now up to 16 returns

The DJI Zenmuse L3 supports up to 16 returns per laser pulse, offering superior penetration power, especially in areas with dense vegetation. The relationship is inverse: a lower spot rate allows for more returns, while a higher spot rate reduces the number of returns.

This capability, combined with the small laser spot, is essential for detecting terrain through dense canopy. To ensure the best penetration, it is recommended to set the sensor to 350 kHz with 16 returns, rather than 2000 kHz with 4 returns. This configuration allows for more complete point clouds for the underlying layers, as demonstrated by obtaining up to 7 returns in a single scan of a forest site.

Ideal use cases: Forestry, Cultural Heritage Archaeology, and Geological Risk Surveys.

High-Precision IMU: The Foundation for Perfect Point Clouds

The Zenmuse L3 integrates a high-precision IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), with an improvement of up to 2.5 times compared to previous models. This system is key to generating high-quality point clouds. It boasts an extraordinary accuracy of 0.02° for heading and 0.01° for pitch/roll (post-processed data). The IMU benefits from extensive DJI optimization with a lightweight design and advanced algorithms, ensuring inertial navigation performance on par with high-end systems. Its efficiency is enhanced by a POS update rate of 200 Hz. In addition, it offers instant start-up: it is ready for takeoff as soon as the M400 is turned on, eliminating the need for pre-warming and automatically reaching optimal operating status at the start of the mission for maximum efficiency.

High-Resolution Dual Camera: Detail and Coverage

The Zenmuse L3 integrates a Micro 4/3 dual camera system with CMOS sensors, offering a native resolution of 100 megapixels (12K). For faster shooting intervals, a 25 megapixel (6K) option is available. This optical power ensures a GSD (Ground Sample Distance) of up to 1.2 cm at 120 meters and 3 cm at 300 meters. The mechanical shutter ensures accuracy and a long service life (500,000 cycles). Flexibility is key: the minimum shooting interval is 1.0 seconds at 100 MP and a very fast 0.5 seconds at 25 MP. In addition, the cameras maintain excellent performance in low light conditions. For optimal point cloud coloring and orthophoto generation, the cameras have an ultra-wide viewing angle of 107 degrees. This FOV is 27 degrees greater than LiDAR, ensuring wider lateral overlap (49% for the camera versus 20% for LiDAR), ensuring that both point cloud and 2D/3D results are obtained from a single flight in a single DJI Terra project.

Enhanced Safety and Integration with DJI M400

The DJI Zenmuse L3 is designed to work exclusively with the M400 drone. Given its advanced nature, which includes a weight of 1.6 kg and high energy consumption, the DJI M350 is not compatible due to insufficient autonomy and power. The L3 uses a new gimbal and updated, specific rails, included as standard accessories.

The system is highly protected with an IP54 rating and can withstand extreme operating temperatures, from -25°C to 55°C, allowing for operation in heavy rain, dust, or extreme temperatures.
The full 3-axis gimbal system offers exceptional freedom of movement (Pitch: minus 120 to plus 60 degrees, Yaw: minus 80 to plus 80 degrees, Roll: minus 90 to plus 60 degrees), enabling accurate facade scanning and oblique modeling with enhanced flight stability at 0.01 degrees. The DJI Skyport quick release makes it easy to use right out of the box.
